President-Elect Barack Obama during a campaign rally in the spring of 2007 on campus at Georgia Tech. Yesterday, Obama was elected as the United States' 44th president and the nation's first African-American to hold the office.
In other election news, it appears that GA Amendment 2, the amendment supporting the construction of the Beltline and other community improvement projects, will pass with a 1.5 percentage point margin (96% of precincts reporting). GA Amendment 3, a corrupt amendment supported by developers of subdivisions has failed by 1.6 percentage points. Amendment 1, supporting the conservation of forest land has passed by 36 points.
It is also still unclear who Georgia's senator will be, as it appears that Saxby Chambliss will not make the 50 percent plus one vote required to win the seat. A run-off election will most likely ensue.

Bob Barr gives a talk to a crowded audience last Thursday afternoon (October 16, 2008) at the Georgia Tech Student Center theater. Barr spoke about the role of the president, the constitution and why he is running, as well as two major party candidates and their running mates.
